The roll-out has begun and millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed across the world. One of the most complex and important initiatives of our time has been set in motion. And although we have all prepared for many months, there are still operational challenges to deal with daily - challenges that need to be efficiently solved to ensure the vaccine's safe delivery to people worldwide.
Kuehne+Nagel started a specialist pharma and healthcare logistics operation more than ten years ago, and we have been growing our capabilities in the field ever since. Today, our pharma and healthcare services include dedicated warehousing, distribution hubs, a pharma vehicle fleet, close integration with partner logistics channels, specialised technical solutions, exclusive access to airside facilities, and much more. And we are continuously working on strengthening our network and its capabilities.
An agile mindset for creative solutions
Although our network and its capabilities are crucial pieces of our puzzle, the most essential part remains our exceptional team. It is the combined expertise and dedication of our colleagues across the world that make our network strong. The strength and agility of our teams have become apparent during the planning and implementation of the global COVID-19 response.
Several projects demonstrate the creativity and dedication of our teams. If there is not enough cold storage capacity in a particular region, our team develops a solution that will get critical vaccines to people who need it, regardless of where they live. This is our "Temperature Pod" solution. When we want to further safeguard the numerous, complex shipments of COVID-19 vaccines, the team sets up a dedicated group that explicitly monitors and cares for these shipments 24/7. That is our Hyper Care team.
The work of hidden heroes
A key learning in the last decade of developing and strengthening our pharma and healthcare solution is that we must work as one team. We must all be part of one holistic solution and operate as one entity. Today, we support each other in bridging critical transfers, we liaise over optimal lanes, we plan 15-minute vaccine transfers that require perfect implementation, we connect the dots. Together.
